Yesterday, we said goodbye to my amazing Nanna, Irene Alice Sheldrick. Born 7th October 1913, and taken from us 2nd December 2010, aged 97.

I started off my blog with a dedication to her, some three years ago. She was an amazing woman, she was a grandmother to me and my three cousins, a great grandmother to five, and a great great grandmother to Theo. I’ve never met someone with such strength and dedication. Living through the both World Wars, bringing up my Father, and my Aunt, always being there for everyone, she will be dearly missed.

RIP Nanna

Words can’t really do justice to say how much she’ll be missed. I like to think she is still with us, and still getting her own way. The funeral director on the day of the service, had to tell us that he had unfortunately forgot to bring the CDs for the service. One of the songs was Goodnight Irene by Nat King Cole. We all firmly believe that this was Nan’s doing, she didn’t want us to say goodbye. I was very lucky to see her the day before she was taken from us, and tell her how much we all loved her. I’ll always have very fond memories of visiting her in my summer holidays, and her doing her morning excercises in her kitchen door way, even at the age of 80.

Rest in piece Nan, say hello to Purple for me.

Well, thought I’d start up a blog of my very own… but am now compelled as to what to put on it?

So thought I’d dedicate to my wee Nan, who turned 94 this October… Bless her. Not so good with the walking these days, but still manages to get about (with a little help).

My Mum (Carol), Brother (Paul), Brothers Girlfriend (Sally), Aunt (Jean), and Aunt’s fella (Ian), and I, took Nan out for a meal Saturday before last. Bit of a change from the food in the residential home we thought… and still Nan has the ability to crack me up. We got all the way through the meal, without a hitch, then it’s time for desert. Nan was adamount she wanted Apple with Ice-cream. Which the restaurant didn’t do, but the lovely waitress said she could wipp up a fruit cocktail, with muchous apple, and some ice-cream.

Half way though eating our deserts we noticed Nan was spitting the apples back out at her plate (she can barely see so wasn’t sure what she was eating with each scoop). When we asked what she was up to, she told us how she didn’t want any applies.. haha had to laugh.

Just hope I get that old, so can wind up the grandkids :P
